Arsenal have won their first pre-season friendly after beating Sydney FC 2-0 on Thursday night. Goals from Per Mertesacker early on and a debut goal for club-record signing Alexandre Lacazette late on were enough for the Gunners, who also missed a penalty through Danny Welbeck. Youngster Reiss Nelson stole the show in the first half with an accomplished performance in the right-wing-back role, with Mertesacker turning home on the spin from a corner to put Arsenal in front.
